Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Salted broth or stock (chicken or veggie)
  • 3 cups Diced Potatoes
  • 2 cups Sliced Carrots
  • 1 cup Chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Celery
  • 2 cups Diced Ham
  • 1 cup Frozen Corn Kernels
  • 1 tsp Celery Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Celery Seed
  • 1/2 cup Pork Lard
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 2 cups Grated Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  1. Pour Broth into a 5 qt. pot. Add potatoes, carrots, onions celery, and ham. (Use our ham slices, hocks, bacon ends, or leftovers from your holiday ham). Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
  2. Meanwhile, in a separate saucepan, melt lard. Add flour and whisk thoroughly to combine. 
  3. Add black pepper. Slowly add milk and keep whisking to prevent lumps. 
  4. Stir over medium high heat until white sauce becomes thick and bubbly.
  5. Add grated cheese. Stir well and remove from heat. 
  6. When veggies are ALMOST cooked, add corn kernels and cook 3-5 more minutes.
  7. Stir in white sauce. Add celery salt and celery seed
  8. Taste and add more salt if needed. ENJOY!
