Swedish Meatballs, Nettie's Version

If you are looking for a perfect fall or any season comfort food, then indulge in this delectable rendition of Swedish Meatballs. This is Nettie's version and a favorite of our family and anyone who comes to visit. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. 100% grass-fed beef
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tbsp. dried onion flakes
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Sauce

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients for meatballs together. Mix by hand for 2 minutes.
  2. Form into Meatballs and place in baking pan.
  3. Bake at 350F until internal temp is 160F.

Meanwhile:

  1. Melt lard in a saucepan
  2. Add flour while whisking continuously
  3. Slowly add broth, still whisking vigorously to avoid lumps
  4. Stir in beef base
  5. Continue stirring until bubbly, then stir in heavy cream. 
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
  7. Add meatballs and all drippings from the pan.

Serve on freshly cooked pasta of your choice.
