Warm and hearty, this soup is perfect for spicy autumn evenings. Sausage and bacon in the same pot? Yes, please!

  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ground black pepper
  • salt
  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 4 large potatoes, diced
  • 1 bunch curly kale, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled


Brown the sausage in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and continue cooking until the onion is soft. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper. Add broth and potatoes and cook until potatoes are soft, 20-25 minutes. Stir in kale and cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Stir in heavy cream. Add bacon and simmer another 3 minutes.
