Ham and Cheddar Chowder

An easy weekday dinner.
- Servings: 6
Ingredients
- (4 cups) Salted broth or stock. (chicken or veggie)
- (3 cups) Diced Potatoes
- (2 cups) Sliced Carrots
- (1 cup) Chopped onion
- (1/2 cup) Chopped celery
- (2 cups) Diced Ham
- (1 cup) Frozen corn kernels
- (1 tsp) celery salt
- (1/2 tsp) celery seed
- (1/2 cup) Pork lard, small
- (1/4 cup) Flour
- (1/2 tsp) black pepper
- (2 cups) milk
- (2 cups) Grated cheddar cheese
Directions
- Pour Broth into a 5 qt. pot. Add potatoes, carrots, onions celery, and ham. (Use our ham slices, hocks, deli ham, or leftovers from your holiday ham). Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
- Meanwhile, in a separate saucepan, melt lard. Add flour and whisk thoroughly to combine.
- Add black pepper. Slowly add milk and keep whisking to prevent lumps.
- Stir over medium high heat until white sauce becomes thick and bubbly.
- Add grated cheese. Stir well and remove from heat.
- When veggies are ALMOST cooked, add corn kernels and cook 3-5 more minutes.
- Stir in white sauce. Add celery salt and celery seed
- Taste and add more salt if needed. ENJOY!
